Meet Nakia Pollard

 

Nakia Pollard, our fearless CEO and founder, is a name synonymous with media mastery and community empowerment. With 19 years of diverse experience in the media industry, Nakia's journey is a testament to dedication, innovation, and an unyielding commitment to making a difference.

 

The Journey Begins

 

Nakia's media odyssey started in high school at 88.3 FM WSHJ, where she interviewed students and city officials, including then-Mayor Brenda Lawrence. Her talent shone brightly as she received the Michigan Association of Educational Broadcasters Production Award. This was just the beginning.

Climbing the Ranks

 

In 2007, Nakia joined 1440 AM WDRJ as an intern, swiftly transitioning to an on-air personality for a coveted rush hour show. Her exposure to video production during this time ignited a passion that would become a cornerstone of her career. Despite the station's sale in 2009, Nakia continued to hone her skills, taking on freelance projects that showcased her versatility and creativity.

 

A Heart for the Community

 

Nakia's career isn't just about media; it's about impact. As a Youth Pastor at The El Bethel Church, she ran summer camps that included social media conduct classes and training on video and audio equipment. Her work empowered countless young people, preparing them for futures filled with potential.

 

Professional Growth

 

Nakia's talents took her to Steptron Technologies as a Production and Graphic Engineer, and later, to the Federation of Youth girls home as a direct care professional. Here, she taught business skills and graphic software, always finding ways to give back and inspire.

 

Serving the City

​

During the pandemic, Nakia served as a Traffic Control Officer for the Detroit Police Department, demonstrating her commitment to her city and its people. This role further showcased her ability to work under pressure and serve with grace.

 

The Birth of Tech Confetti

 

With a wealth of experience and a heart full of passion, Nakia founded Tech Confetti LLC. Our mission? To assist churches and small businesses with their media and tech needs while training and employing industry professionals. We're thrilled to announce our first media camp, where we'll train 25 Detroit youth in editing, graphics, lighting, and camera operations, thanks to funding from Detroit's own GDYT Program.

 

Our Projects

 

Tech Confetti is proud to be involved in a variety of impactful projects, including:

 

- **Bethel Radio Network:** Creating an online radio/TV network for a fellowship of churches.

- **DABO Radio Station:** Building an online radio station and app for the Detroit Association of Black Organizations.

- **Martin Luther King Midnight Musical:** Marketing, publication, and live streaming of this annual event for eight years.

- **Music Video Editing:** Crafting compelling visuals for artists.

- **UAW Election Publications:** Supporting various candidates with election materials.

- **Social Media Campaigns:** Encouraging Detroiters to vote through initiatives with The Council of Baptist Pastors.

- **Ribs and Soul Festival:** Promoting and streaming this beloved event at Hart Plaza (2022/2023).

- **Business Branding:** Elevating social media content creators with strategic branding.

- **Consulting & Training:** Teaching businesses and churches to enhance their online presence, especially during the pandemic.

 

Looking Ahead

 

Nakia recently won the Specs Howard School of Media Arts Adult Scholarship Competition for the Digital Media Arts Program. She’s committed to staying at the forefront of technology and media, ensuring Tech Confetti remains a beacon of innovation.
